Are coloured contact lenses permissible

Question:

Are coloured contact lenses permissible?

Answer:

It would not be permitted to wear coloured contacts. The reason for this is that there are many hadith that forbid, for example, creating artificial gaps in teeth to appear younger and adorning the body via elaborate tattoos; see Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Libas. The reason stated by the commentators for these prohibitions is "Changing the creation of Allah taala." They further elaborate that the reason that the prohibitions mentioned are so severe is because of the deception these changes entail. In addition to this, there is also a level of showing one's complaint to Allah taala for how He created a person, and yet He is the best of creators.
Thus though it could be argued that the change is not permanent, there is still the undeniable fact that a person is hiding the real colour of his eyes and as such is deceiving others. Deception however, in all its forms, has been forbidden. See Fath al-Bari, vol.10 pg.465.
Thus it would only be permitted to wear contacts that are either the same colour as the real colour of one's eyes or regular colourless contacts.
