Going for four months/40 days

Question:

What is the Islamic ruling on going out with Tabligi Jamaat for a set number of months/days.

I have heard from some brothers that it is a bidah which is why I've stopped going myself. Their books Fazail-a-Amaal has many fabiricated hadith in it and when you go on jammat you will be reading their book. Please clarify the situation for me.

To go on Jamaah is not Bidaah. You should avoid keeping the company of such people who issue such baseless Fatwas that not only have no legal basis, but also create devision and hatred amongst Muslims. There many general evidences for going on Jamaah for 40 days, and the basic idea is to spend time in the Masjid, away from the fitna of the outside World, learning one's Deen and worship Allah taala. Now a group of such learners could do that for 10 days or 15 days or any number of days. In order to make things uniform and organised 40 days is opted for as experience tells that such a long time (40) will have an affect in changing a person's character. Support for this point can be found in certain verses of the Holy Qur'an, Musa a.s. spent forty days on the mount in seclusion is mentioned in Sura Al-Aaraaf v.142. As for the book Fazail-e-Aamal, one must rememeber that there is no book in the World that is free from defects except the Holy Qur'an and secondly the Hadith scholars like Ibn Salah and Suyuti concur that if a weak hadith comes under a general principle of the Sharia or is supported by another hadith that is sound it is permitted to narrate that hadith if it helps in motivating people to do acts of worship. fazail-e-Aamal contains many Sahih and Hassan hadith and then there are also these types of weak hadith.
