Question:

I have heard that the Prophet SAW was given "ilme ghayb", is this true?

Answer:

Allah taala bestowed upon the Messenger of Allah such knowledge that was never given to anyone before or after him, peace and blessings upon him. This knowledge of the unseen was indeed given to him and Imam Gangohi affirmed that. However, to believe the Messenger, peace and blessings upon him, is "Aalim al-Ghayb", which is a name used for Allah taala in the Holy Qur'an, is incorrect. As such it cannot be used for the Prophet, peace and blessings upon him, as it suggests he, peace and blessings upon him, has absolute knowledge of everything without restrictions, which is indeed disbelief.
