Saying "Ya Muhammad" (pbuh)

Question:

Via various evidences, Mufti Mohammed Sajjad confirmed in one answer that the Prophet Muhammad (s) is still alive in his grave. Does this give weight to the the belief/acknowledgement of his precense via using the term "YA" before his name?

Answer:

If someone said it at his grave, this would be permitted, but to do so from far away with the intention of calling him, peace and blessings upon him, for his aid is what is forbidden as explained in the previous answers on the website. It would also be permitted to say "Ya Muhammad," if done in the manner of people who have deep love of someone. That is they are so besotted with their beloved that they are restless for him to the point they are compelled to say "Ya Muhammad" to find peace. In this case, it is not done believing he, peace and blessings be upon him, can hear them nor are they calling him.

See Mufti Yusaf Ludhyanvi's "Ikhtilaf-e-Ummat Awr Sirati Mustaqim," p48.
