Interest

Question:

I try and give dawah as much as I can, however when it comes to the prohibition of interest, I am a little weak in knowlegde. Why is interest haram? what are the principles behind it's prohibition? It's one thing to say that it is haram, but my point is much more effective when I state why it is haram. Please give details inshAllah. JazakAllahu khair.

The subject is quite lengthy, thus to get a comprehensive understanding I would recommend the following book, which you should be able to order online: "The Historic Judgement on Interest," by Mufti Taqi Uthmani.
