How to give Dawah

Question:

A non-muslim friend is going through difficult times and I started informing her about Islam and how it could help her change things around by having a different outlook on life. But I have no real experience of Dawah and my efforts seem a little haphazard.

I informed her of the basics of Islam and the Seerah but I would like to know how I can explain how it will change things in her life for the better.

The approach you initially adopted is fine, that is to explain how Islam could benefit her. Furthermore, you should show the beauty of Islam through your behaviour and manners, for example by consoling her and perhaps inviting her for dinner or buying her a good Islamic book. It may be appropriate at this time, but you will need to judge the suitability of the moment, to suggest to her that for whatever problem she is having, why not pray to God/Allah taala to solve it for her? You should explain to her that God is All-Powerful and is All-hearing, and that aswell as seeking His help in this problem she should ask Him to show her which religion is the True Religion, so that she can follow it; for if she is having doubts then this is a sureway, provided a person is sincere, to finding the truth. Finally, you should also earnestly make Duas for her guidance.
