Question:
Is it permissible to read Quran during/after the burial of a body? Is it also permissible to read Quran when visiting the grave? Please can you clarify from the Quran and Sunnah?
Answer:

To recite the Holy Qur'an at the graveyard is permitted and with the intention of donating the reward of one's recital to the deceased it would be praiseworthy. Imam Badr al-Din al-Ayni, the commentator of Sahih al-Bukhari, cites the following narration of Anas r.a.: "Whoever enters a graveyard and recites Sura Yaa Seen, Allah would remove the punishment of the grave for that day from the people. And whoever visited the grave of his parents or one of them and recited Yaa seen at their grave, he would be forgiven." As for before the body has been washed, the jurists differed and the view of Imam Ibn Abideen is for its permissiblity provided the body of the deceased is covered. And in the case it is not covered it would only be disliked to recite audibly/aloud next to it, and reciting inaudibly would be permitted. And obviously, if the person reciting is in another room to the dead body, then also it would be allowed to recite audibly, Rad al-Muhtar, p.84-85, vol.3.
