This question has been answered before on the website with the evidences that forbid all musical instruments. In the recent years new developments have occurred which may seem permitted to many people, but in reality they are forbidden either because they incorporate music or have a resemblance to what is forbidden in Islam. For example, it is forbidden to listen to the ring tones one finds on a mobile phone.

If one needs to have a ring tone to alert one to incoming calls, one should select a ring tone that is music free. Another issue that is confusing many is the permissibility or otherwise of the so called Nasheed concerts and Nasheed groups that have become so common today. Apart from the fact that in many cases forbidden musical instruments are employed, they merely resemble irreligious pop bands; from the manner of dress and body movements of the singer to the way in which they are marketed and fan clubs are created around them.

Some argue they are a good way, or lesser evil, to wean teenagers off music. Regardless of this consideration they are still forbidden in the sight of the Shariah. This ruling of unlawfulness is not based merely on the fact that these groups employ Music instruments, but because of the issue of Tashabbuh (resembling the wicked). It can also be strongly argued that if they can be a means to weaning people addicted to music off it, they can also be a means to getting a person who does not listen to Music into listening to Music!
