| Laylatul Bar'at (15th Shabaan) |
Question:
What is the exact purpose of the 15th of Shabaan? Is it permissable to fast and / or spend the night in prayer on this day with the intention that it is the 15th of shabaan and therefore special? Answer:
As for fasting on this day, it is not established in the texts. However, it would be praiseworthy to fast a Nafl fast on this day as the fifteenth comes under "the white days" of the month when it is encouraged and highly rewarded to fast; namely the 13th, 14th and 15th. In addition to this, there is another reason why a person should try to fast on this day, though he should not think it necessary or a specific fast stipulated for this day, is that it is a day when Allah taala in his mercy forgives millions of people, and saves them from entering the Hell fire. Thus, just as it would be inappropriate and indicating one's indifference for this day by spending it committing sins, and thereby perhaps ending up deprived, it would be very appropriate if one busied oneself in acts of worship and fasting is one of the most beloved acts of worship to Allah taala.
