Miscarriage, Ghusl and Ramadan

Question:

I am a muslim sister requiring some advice on whether I should be fasting as I have come across some differences in opinion.

Here are the facts:

I had a miscarriage on 24/08/06, the foetus was removed surgically, it was a silent miscarriage at 7 weeks but it was discovered at 11 weeks on my 1st ultrasound I had discharge up until the 40 days, however it was progressively less with time. I did Ghusl after 40 days but at that time bleeding heavily and I am currently. I thought at that I has started my period I sought advice at that time on what I should do from an islamic teacher. I was told to fast from the 4th October(the end of 40 days) and do fresh wudu for every namaz.

Is this correct?

I am currently following this advice but feel uncomfortable fasting as I am not sure whether my fasts are valid. I would be grateful if you could clarify this.

Answer:

Provided the foetus had developed to the stage limbs were apparant you are right to do fresh Wudu for every Salah as the blood that followed after forty days is Istihadah (chronic vaginal discharge and not Haid). Thus one must fast in these days. One will only stop fasting once it is clear that you have entered into your period (Haid), ie by the passing of at least fifteen days of purity.
