Christians claim to be monotheists but their doctrine of trinity proves problematic. In this short work, we shall begin by defining the terms ‘trinity’ and ‘monotheism’ and subsequently, state the ‘Trinitarian problem’ and some of the attempts of reconciling it with monotheism by some representatives of Christianity and then present our conclusions.

Sheikh Haji Imdadullah Muhajir was a great ascetic and scrupulous scholar. He was a descendent of Umar (Allah be pleased with him). Born in North India, he migrated to Makkah after the Indian Mutiny in 1875. His counsel is re-produced in English to benefit one and all.

The world watches in horror, as a people are being subjected to the most odious kind of terrorism. Innocent people are being killed and maimed by the latest weapons of mass destruction. Aid agencies are screaming out for help, pictures are being beamed all over the world showing dead babies, children bleeding, women crying and homes reduced to rubble and it can hardly solicit a yawn from so called civilised nations. They, who would send out the fire-brigade and the police to save a cat stuck in a tree, fail to muster a word of condemnation, let alone act to prevent the atrocities.

Taqlid means following the legal opinions of a scholar without gaining knowledge of the detailed evidences for those opinions. A person is compelled to do this as he is not able to encompass the evidences to assert his own view on any particular detailed issue related to the Deen. This reliance upon a group of highly trained individuals is seen in every aspect of human life from when we wish to build an extension to our homes to when we wish to cure ourselves; we unquestioningly defer to the experts. The sick person never tries to diagnose himself, let alone be bold enough to prescribe using his own knowledge, the course of medicine he needs to take. Rather he sits humbly and accepts everything his doctor tells him and prescribes him. It would seem, Islam alone has been singled out as being that one thing that any person not only may exercise his mental abilities (however deficient they are) to determine its detailed teachings, but moreover it is said to be his duty.

There are few who will disagree that the duty of Dawah, or calling, to Islam has been severely neglected in our times when the need for it is more pronounced than ever. It is either not undertaken altogether, or if it is performed, then it is undertaken without the knowledge of the etiquette, preconditions, and general teachings that the sacred sources of Islam have provided for it. Therefore, the Da‘wah is many times bereft of the results and blessings that could be attained.
