Making up missed Salah

Question:

Do I have to make up missed salah for the period I was not practising?

Answer:

Consider a missed Salah like a unpaid bill, just because a person does not pay it off the phone company does not just let it go. In fact according to all four schools of law, i.e. the Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi and Hanbali it is obligatory to make up for all missed prayers. The procedure for doing this is:

1] Sincerely repent to Allah taala for the sin of missing these Salahs. Inshallah Allah taala will forgive you so even if you die before you can complete the number missed you may not have to answer for them.

2] Make an estimate of all the Salahs missed by you including Witr salah. Just times the number of days in the year by each Salah.

3] Having made the total you can pray these prayers if they are many (over 6) by simply making the intention for the first salah ever missed by you of the Zuhr salahs for example. Then when you perorm it the first Salah of the Zuhr salahs you missed will be wiped away from your balance and so on.

4] If there are many Salahs that you need to make up you can pray them at any time in the day you please except for the two prohibited times (Zawal and sunset). You can also perform one of each prayer each day or you may also, if you wish, concentrate on praying one particular prayer - for example, if a person has 400 of each prayer to make up he or she can first pray 400 Fajrs and then move on to Zuhr and so on.
