Balancing life and praying at the masjid in Jamat

Question:

How strong is the compulsion to pray at the mosque? If one's wife is not praying at the time of Jama'at because, the baby is crying and/or one's wife is cooking, if no one else is around to help, should one leave them for the jama'at, or stay at home and help?

Answer:

It is a highly emphasised Sunnah to attend the congregational prayers especially the Fajr and Isha. It is recorded in Sahih Muslim that in the time of the Sahabah (may Allah taala be pleased with them) people who were physically incapacitated would come to the Masjid with the aid of two men supporting them on either side. Also by praying in Jamaah gives a person 27 times more reward than by praying alone. If however one believed by going to attend the congregational prayer some danger or harm would befall one's family or property one may pray at home making a jamaah with one's wife.
