Joining salat late - when to count raka'at

Question:

When joining a prayer that has already begun, does one need to wait after making takbir for the equivalent of three subhanallahs before going into ruku' sajda etc.

If the imam starts to say sami Allahu liman hamida before you reach ruku, does the raka'at count?

Answer:

[1] One does need to stand when joining a Salah that has already begun, and the people are in rakoo. It is sufficient that a person be standing for the extent that he utters the opening Allahuakbar. [2] One will be considered to have caught the Rakaah by meeting, even for a moment, the Imam whilst he is still fully in the bowed position. This is considered the soundest view as is mentioned in the commentary of Imam Tahtavi.
