Question:

I have a 19 year old brother who is involved in many vices i.e smoking marijuana and soliciting with the wrong crowd for the last two years. His health and character has deteriated dramatically and is causing great concern and distress for his family. Is there any spiritual remedies available i.e any duas or surahs which i can read for him?

Answer:

You should give him Islamic tapes to listen to. Continue to make Dua for him as Allah taala promises that He will never let the person calling on him down, provided the Dua is done fervently and with full concentration. The Holy Qur'an says: "And your Lord says: 'Call on Me; I shall answer your prayer." (40:60). You should also tell your mother to pray for him and after Salah recite the following Quranic Dua: "Wa Aslih Lee Fee Dhurriyatee Innee Tubtu Ilayk Wa Innee Minal-Muslimeen," ("And [O Allah] make good for me my children, I have turned to you and indeed I am from the Muslims"), 46:15.
