Using foul language when talking about Islamic issues

Question:

During my days of ignorance, i utterened the following sentences:

  • I said to my brother that his mosque hat looks like a cake.
  • I said that "I cant even f***** read quran". The f-word was not towards the quran i just have a bad habit of saying it.
  • "I am not going to a f***** bayan". Again i said that word due to my bad habit and not towards deen.

What is the consequence of these statements and what should i do to repent?

The words you said are odious and are a result of lacking the fear of Allah taala and respect of the Deen. It is a major sin to speak about religious matters using such foul demeaning language. Allah taala says: "Whosoever honors the signs of Allah it is from the fear of hearts." The words you said are very close to Kufr and it is a matter of time that you will actually end up uttering something that does consequent in Kufr. Thus you should take this reprieve as a sign of Allah's mercy upon you and take the means necessary that will prevent a person speaking so freely and irresponsibly. Namely, one should firstly to sincere Taubah for what you said and any other past sins and resolve to never say anything without checking your sentence, as to its soundness, first in your mind. You should seek knowledge of the Deen and the company of Ulema and the pious as this will also have a good influence on your manners and habits. Similarly you should abandon all such things that corrupt a person's pure character; such as bad company- which includes Television and movies, and friends who use foul language etc.
