| Wearing Quranic Taweez |
Question:
What's the ruling regarding wearing Quranic taweez? Answer:
According to the majority of scholars, as mentioned by Hafiz Ibn Hajr al-Asqalani in Fath al-Bari, it is permitted to employ Taweez provided three conditions are fulfilled. Namely, that they do not contain words that are unintelligible; that a person does not consider the Taweez itself as holding any power to benefit and thirdly that the Taweez use words from the Holy Qur'an, the mention of His attributes or names, vol.10 p.240. There are many traditions recorded in the Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah in which the Sahaaba are recorded as using Taweez, for example, they would tie a special Taweez to the arm of a pregnant woman to help aid in an easy birth.
