| Paying Zakaah on long term loans |
Question:
I have given some Qarza Hasana to an Islamic institute as a long term loan. This money was originally for the education of my non-baligh (non mature) children. Do I have to pay Zakaah upon this money whilst it is with the institute. Answer:
The basic rule is that one must give Zakah on debts given to others. If however it is a long term loan one is permitted to give the Zakah when one actually recieves the loan back, calculatig the sum for the preceding years.
