The day of Arafat is on 15-Nov. In my country, 9th Dhu-Al-Hijja is on 16-Nov which happens to be Eid al-Adha in Makkah Mukarramah. Can I still observe fast on this day?
Answer
It is narrated in Saheeh Muslim that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said:
صيام يوم عرفة أحتسب على الله أن يكفر السنة التي قبله والسنة التي بعده
Fasting on the Day of A’rafah I seek from Allah expiates sins of the preceding and the coming year.
(Saheeh Muslim)
The Day of A’rafah falls on the 9th of Zhil Hijjah which is one day prior to E’id. Therefore fasting on this date would be rewarded whether it coincides with the 9th in Saudi Araibiya or not.
