Question
My question is regarding morning and evening Dua's. I know that the best time to perform morning dua's is at the time of Fajr, but as for evening, I was under the impression that it was at Maghrib time, as many of the Dua's ask Allah (swt) to grant good during the night, and protection during the night. But recently I was informed that its actually Asr time.
I have not changed the time i make my evening dua's from Magrib to Asr as no evidence was presented, just a statment.
Answer
It is permitted to say these supplications/Duas both at the time of after Asr prayer and at Magrib time.
The aim is, as you say, to seek protection and safety during that period which is achieved in either way. Certainly, it is more praiseworty to say these and other Adhkar after Asr to Maghrib. The proof for this is the verse: "The guided people worship Allah) in the houses that Allah has permitted to be raised, and where His name is recounted and He is glorified, in the morning and evening (Asaal)," Sura Nur:35. Imam Nawawi records that the arabic word "Asaal" (evening) means the time between Asr and Magrib and concludes that this time is more praiseworthy for offering doing Duas etc. Al-Adhkar, Imam Nawawi, p.96.
