Question

I have recently conceived after year's of trying. I would like to know if it is safe to offer normal rukuh and sajadh during pregnancy or is there an alternate way? Can I sit on a chair or sit on the ground throughout the salah. I have no discomfort but it is just the fear.

Answer

Merely becoming pregnant is not sufficient for a person to pray without bowing (Ruku’) or prostration (Sujood).

Imam Al-Mowsili states:

إذا عجز عن القيام أو خاف زيادة المرض صلى قاعداً يركع ويسجد، أو مومياً إن عجز عنهما

If a person is unable to stand (in prayer) or fears the increasing of sickness then he can pray sitting with Ruku’ and Sujood or with indication if he is unable to do them (Ruku’ and Sujood)
(See. Al-Ikhtiyaar p.76/1 Dar Al-Fikr Al-A’rabi)

You must consult your doctor to see if there is a real danger or fear of danger for the baby’s health. If so then you will be permitted by Sharia’h to pray sitting if you find difficulty in standing or may affect the baby’s health. Similarly you may leave prostration and substitute it with indications.
