New Roots

Project background

With re-offending rates at an all-time high, As-Suffa Outreach established the New Roots project to make prisoner transitions from jail to community seamless. To achieve this, we offer ex- offenders support at a critical juncture in their rehabilitation in a bid to break the cycle of re-offending.

This project aims to provide support and direction for those individuals who require a tailored service before and after leaving prison.

We aim to make the transition back into the community for prison leavers smooth by addressing concerns and removing any obstacles.

We offer to visit the prisoners during prison term and at their exit, upon release.

Project Details

We have worked with over 50 ex-offenders from the Birmingham area in 2018 alone. We regularly visit HMP Stoke Heath every fortnight and have met several ex-offenders at the gate, offering them much-needed support and guidance.

We are now also pleased to announce that we have started working with HMP Werrington (Youth Offenders).
