Qurbani is fardh (compulsory) upon every able-bodied Muslim who has reached the age of puberty and is eligible to pay Zakat.
Qurbani means sacrifice in Arabic. It refers to the sacrifice of animals to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim Alayhissalams dedication to Allah SWT and his willingness to sacrifice his beloved son Ismaeel Alayhissalam for the sake of Allah SWT.
Also known as Udhiya, it is the sacrificing of a livestock animal during the festival of Eid al-Adha, which is from the 10th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah, The final month of the Islamic calendar.
This Eid al-Adha carry out the compulsory act of Qurbani and feed the poor and needy around the world.
Sacrifices can only be made after the Eid prayer on the 10th, 11th and 12th of Dhul Hijjah.
Any sacrifices made before the Eid prayer will not be considered as Qurbani and need to be carried out again.
Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said, “Whoever slaughtered the sacrifice before the prayer, he just slaughtered it for himself, and whoever slaughtered it after the prayer, he slaughtered it at the right time and followed the tradition of the Muslims.” (Bukhari, 68/454)
