Syria a country already torn apart by a war which has raged on for 12 years now, is now facing temperatures which have risen to over 42 degrees Celsius and are expected to continue to rise. Over 12 million Syrians have been displaced in other countries, with just under 7 million displaced within Syria. Within the current month, teams have extinguished more than 200 fires, including 93 fires in agricultural lands, 21 fires in forests, 36 fires in civilian homes and 10 fires in displacement camps.

Living in tents, the displaced Syrian refugees have no way of keeping themselves cool or nourished during this scorching heat. They have described it to being “like living in an oven”. The elderly and children of Syria have really had it difficult, once they have made it through the harsh winter, they have now been faced with unbearable heat. A lack of cooling options has left them vulnerable to heat based illnesses.
