  • Tell us how you first got involved with As-Suffa?
    • I first got involved with As-Suffa when I attended the Khalid ibn Waleed (ra) course. Having read portions of the book (by A.I. Akram) I wanted more insight into the Sahabah, and by attending the course it sparked the desire for me to start learning more about Islam and leading figures in Islam.
  • What was your first impression of As-Suffa?
    • Very organised. Also I felt like I could relate to the Institute. Many people from different backgrounds were helping out and attending their events which made me feel it is an Institute for all.  I wasn’t ostracised.
  • What’s the best/worst thing to happen since you started volunteering with As-Suffa?
    • Best: When external scholars come to As-Suffa and give us private naseehah (advice) sessions.
    • Worst: When I felt I didn’t complete a task to the best of my ability.
  • When you last volunteered, how did that make you feel?
    • Retreat 14-16/04/2017: I felt accomplished as the tasks I completed made a lasting impression on our guests. e.g. I cleaned the rooms of our guests.
  • What’s it like to be a volunteer for As-Suffa?
    • It’s great being a volunteer at As-Suffa as we have a family atmosphere. I feel lucky as it can be a means of me helping and providing for others. It allows me to acquire new skills and opens up doors for many opportunities.
  • How would (someone) describe you?
    • Vain, passionate, team player, hard working, and has a willingness to learn new skills.
  • What do you do when you aren’t volunteering?
    • I am a full time student at Markfield Institute. I enjoy keeping fit by going to the gym regularly and I have an interest in wildlife and ecology.
  • What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?
    • Go for it! You will never experience anything like it, the team leaders and other volunteers provide great support and there is always something going on for you to get involved in.
