Classical Readings of Sacred Texts – For Female Students/Scholars
A platform for female students of knowledge to read classical texts, primarily in hadeeth but also other general texts. These would be under the supervision of the facilitator and under a designated reading schedule based on a termly basis. Classes will take place every Tuesday. More information about specific texts can be acquired post registration.
When do lessons take place?
Lessons take place on Tuesdays between 10:30AM-11:30AM, both onsite at 156 High Street, Birmingham, B6 4UX and online, during school term times. The details of school term times can be found via the Birmingham City Council website.
What are the course fees and who is the facilitator?
£15 a month. The facilitator is Ustaadhah Naimah.
Who is this course for?
The course is tailored for advanced female students of knowledge and/or scholars. Participants would need a relatively good command of Arabic as the sessions will mainly be in a maqra’ah format and, as such, less explanation of meanings will be provided.
Can you explain the format of the sessions?
The aim is to conduct readings of different texts over the course. These will mainly be maqra’ah sessions with an added opportunity to explain unfamiliar vocabulary. Initially, the facilitator will do the majority of the readings. As and when other participants gain confidence to read texts in a swift manner, the door will be opened for others to read.
Depending on the needs of the students, certain texts will be read with an intention to improve Arabic readership and comprehension. However, these will only constitute a small section of the class.
Will ijaazat be provided for these maqra’aat?
If the facilitator, or one or more of the participants, possess an ijaazah of transmission in a particular text, there will be an opportunity to receive ijaazah under the fulfillment of certain conditions.
Please note that these are ijaazaat of blessing only, with the aim to connect the reader to the author through a connected chain. These are not ijaazaat of tadrees (teaching).
What are the texts that will be read?
The primary focus will be to read texts of Ahadeeth. However, other books, such as those in the genre of etiquette and spirituality will also be read. In the introductory few weeks the Arba’oon of Imam Al Nawawi (RahimahuAllah) and the Awail As Sunbuliyyah of Imam As Sunbul Al Makki (RahimahuAllah) will be covered. From September, the maqra’ah on the famous and blessed Riyaadh As Saliheen of our blessed Imam Al Nawawi, (RahimahuAllah)- coupled with a complimentary reading of Ta’leem Al Muta’allim of Imam Az Zarnuji (rahimahuAllah) will commence. Subsequent texts will be decided after consultation with the participants.
